Even During Recession Senior Care Industry Grows at Exponential Rate - 40% Since 2008: Caregiver Average Hourly Wage is 38% Above National Minimum Wage, Requires Little or No Training
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 16, 2013
Caregiverlist.com, the premier service connecting seniors and professional caregivers with the most reliable senior care options, announced today the first “Caregiverlist.com Senior Care Employment Index” that monitors the eldercare job industry. Due to massive senior care industry expansion, there has been 40% growth in U.S. senior care agencies since 2008 and more than 4,000 caregivers and CNAs are hired monthly from Caregiverlist.com by subscribing senior care companies. Senior caregiving is a great job opportunity that pays 38% more than the national minimum wage and often requires little or no training.
Beginning in 2008, Caregiverlist.com has been tracking the rapidly-growing senior care industry and has compiled the only data for caregiver pay rates, industry size and growth, top cities for senior care employment and types of senior care positions available.
“Since 2008, the industry has experienced expansive growth, even in a challenged economy. There is a huge demand in senior care, along with great pay opportunities and a variety of jobs available,” says Caregiverlist.com Founder and CEO Julie Northcutt. “These jobs do not require a college degree and caregivers can earn much more than minimum wage jobs. The industry is growing so quickly often these jobs can’t be filled due to a lack of applicants.”
Here are highlights from the Caregiverlist.com Senior Care Employment Index:

“The future of senior caregiving is going to continue to exponentially grow as the number of seniors in America will increase by 75% in the next decade. There will be a lot of larger companies expanding through acquisitions of smaller, locally managed agencies along with hospitals getting involved to help senior care remain local,” said Northcutt. “Bottom line, we need more senior caregivers since the need is growing so quickly.”
