MEMA urges residents to take caution to winter weather approaching

Posted: Updated:
RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

As some of you prepare for the possibility of ice and more rain, there are a few safety precautions to remember.

Elevated surfaces, such as bridges, over passes, and power lines will be the first to freeze. The road you are traveling on may be fine, but a bridge will ice first, possibly causing drivers to loose control of their vehicle.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency tells residents stay away from downed power lines.

Also, check on the elderly during the cold snap or while the power is out.

More rain is also predicted this week. Meaning, we could see more flooding, mudslides, and downed trees.

Never drive through a flooded area.
