LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - 2013 will be a busy year for the administration, staff and volunteers at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.
In May, the museum will celebrate its 90th birthday by opening a new gallery and storage area, which is presently under construction. A $5 million capital campaign which began in 2010 is funding the project.
Meanwhile, several new exhibits will open in the coming year. Among them are displays of early 20th century Japanese photography, Picasso ceramics and famous photographs spanning 50 years of Rock and Roll history.
"We're adding on a pretty good bit of space," said George Bassi, museum director. "So, we'll become almost 28,000 square feet with this new addition and I think people will come to appreciate not only the architecture of the old, but the architecture of this new space as well," he said.
The museum opened in 1923.
