Hattiesburg restaurant comes to aid of Christian Services

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

During the month of January Cotton Blues restaurant on Highway 98 in Hattiesburg is holding a "Feed the Burg" event to benefit Christian Services.

Restaurant owner Chris Ortego says for every meal sold during the month they will donate one meal to Christian Services. He says he got the idea from a promotion at a local retail store where they donate a pair of shoes to charity for every pair sold.

The food will be prepared at the restaurant and then be picked up by Christian Services  to be served at their 2nd Street facility.

Ortego says they expect to donate about 300 meals a week for the next six months.

"Christian Services works with all the churches in the area, they are not affiliated with one particular one," said Ortego. "They really are the only ones who have a full service soup kitchen. They serve lunch and dinner twice a day through out the year."

Cotton Blues is a locally owned, upscale casual restaurant. They serve a southern/soul food style of food made from many fresh ingredients that are purchased locally.
