PRESS RELEASE FROM WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY
LIVINGSTON, AL - #10 William Carey committed 29 turnovers as they fell to the University of West Alabama, 93-80 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in Livingston.
The Crusaders (11-2) jumped out of the gates quickly opening a 10-5 lead before things went south. Carey turned the ball over 17 times in the first half and the Tigers (4-5) made them pay. West Alabama connected on seven three point baskets and made 20 field goals as they opened a 56-38 lead at the break.
In the second half the Tigers stretched the lead to as many as 25 before Carey finally made a run and trimmed the lead to 7 on Guy Payne's steal and layup with 8:27 to play. But again the turnovers proved costly as the Tigers Steven Samuels and Sandy Underwood reeled off seven straight points to end the Carey rally.
Jeremiah Dunnings led four Crusaders in double figures with 28 points. Guy Payne finished with 18 points and Jamal Doss added 13 points and 5 blocked shots. Daron Bell finished with 11 points.
WCU returns to action on Monday when they take on Southern Miss in exhibition action at Reed Green Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 2:30 pm.
