WDAM-TV is closely monitoring today's weather situation, and residents should be prepared for severe storms in the afternoon.

The threat of storms will continue through the morning hours, but the greatest chance of severe weather will come between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. as a cold front and strong storms tied to that front make their push through the Pine Belt.

During that time period, damaging wind gusts, large hail, strong tornadoes, heavy rain, and frequent lightning will be possible.
