Ten days of giving campaign continues for United Blood Services

United Blood Services of Hattiesburg continued its December Ten Days of Giving Campaign in Petal on Christmas Eve.

For the past week they have traveled throughout the Pine Belt with their mobile unit taking donations of blood. Today they were at the Wal Greens in Petal.

During the summer months and the holidays the demand for blood sharply increases. At the same time donations decrease because work places and schools are on a vacation schedule.

The biggest need right now is for R-H negative donors as the supply for that type is very low.

"All blood types are needed at this time, however we do have a particular need for Rh negatives," said Christy Womack, United Blood Services Donor Recruiter. "We want to make sure that all of the patients over the holidays receive the blood products they need."

Wednesday United Blood Services will be at several locations in the Pine Belt on Wednesday. Call 601-264-0743 to find out where you can donate.

The Mississippi All-Stars wrapped up its third practice at Hattiesburg High school ahead of the 31st Mississippi/Alabama All-star game on Saturday at noon. Although Saturday’s contest at Southern Miss’ M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg is just an exhibition, the Mississippi players are taking it seriously.
