Hattiesburg organization donates dozens of food boxes to needy families for Christmas

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Jesse L. Brown Elks Lodge donated 51 food boxes and toys to needy families around Hattiesburg, Laurel, Forrest and Jones County area on Saturday.

Each food box contained breakfast and dinner items such as ham, sausage, grits, canned goods, and much more.

Many of the food donations were made by Christian Services, along with the brothers and daughters of the organization and the community.

Toys were also donated with each food box thanks to Representative Percy Watson and the toy donations given at his gala.

"We hope to bring Christmas cheers to the ones that was not fortunate enough, that they can wake up and have a Christmas breakfast or a Christmas dinner," said Jesse L. Brown Elks Lodge Leading Knight Jerry Newell.

Every year the Jesse L. Brown Elks Lodge tries to donate an extra food box than the previous year, but thanks to many contributions this year they were able to donate six extra food boxes than last year.
