Three people transported to hospital after head-on collision on 588

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Three people were transported to the hospital after a two vehicle head-on collision occurred on Highway 588 in South West Jones County Friday morning.

The accident happened about 10 a.m. about three miles west of the Sand Hill Community.

Police say the accident happened when a Nissan Altima heading west bound collided with an older model Dodge pick-up truck heading eastbound. The male passenger in the Altima had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both drivers and the male passenger were brought South Central Regional Medical Center. The injuries were believed to be non life threatening.

Traffic on Highway 588 was blocked  blocked in both directions for more than an hour.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
