HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department held their annual Christmas party in the city court room.
For the third year in a row Grace Temple Church adopted the department at Christmas. Each of the officers received a prayer partner for a year and a gift bag with cookies and a gift certificate.
Invited to the party were children from the children's shelter in Hattiesburg. Each of them received.
Each year the department takes donations from local citizens and businesses to help needy families in the community who might not otherwise have a Christmas.
"We take that money and go out in the community and find citizens in need of a Christmas," said Lieutenant Jon Traxler, Hattiesburg Police Public Information Officer. "Then we go out an buy gifts to give to as many as we can."
Twenty area children will have the opportunity to shop with a Hattiesburg Policemen or firemen Friday night at Walmart."
