In the wake of Friday's tragedy in Sandy Hook Ct. the Jefferson Davis County Schools held assemblies Monday to address school safety and security.

At Bassfield High School Principal John Daley announced they would be conducting lock down and evacuation drills in the coming days. He said the district is sending a message to students, faculty, staff, and parents that they will do everything they can to endure that they will be safe in the school environment.

He added they are looking into other measures that could be implemented in the future.

"We realize school safety and security is an issue and we're on top of things and doing the best we can to make sure our campus is safe," said Daley. "There are a lot of questions out there and I expect over the next few weeks and months that the educational community is going to try to find answers for  those questions on how we can keep our students safe as possible each day at school."

The names of all 26 victims who died on Friday in Sandy Hook were read during the assembly followed by a moment of silence.
