The Marion County Sheriff's department aided by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are looking into an apparent suicide at the Marion County Jail.

Around 3 pm Tuesday, Samantha Gatlin, 25 of Foxworth was found dead, alone in her cell. Investigators say the body was discovered with a sheet wrapped around her neck. Gatlin had been booked into the Marion County jail on burglary charges Monday. The sheriff's office says at no time did she display suicidal tendencies.

"We went to the jail and discovered this female in her cell. Of course they had already started CPR and shocked her and called AAA", said Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall. "Once we got over there and discovered everything that happened it did look like it was self-inflicted and at that time due to it being the county jail we called the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and started the investigation at that time."

Sheriff Hall says the Marion County jail takes every precaution in trying to prevent these incidents. Had Gatlin shown any sign of intentionally harming herself, she would have been placed on suicide watch.
