HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of Hattiesburg residents helped the hungry across our state by attending a special program of traditional Christmas music Tuesday night. A Christmas Concert at the Saenger Theater was a benefit for Extra Table.

That organization supplies food pantries and soup kitchens across the state with healthy food.

Nearly one dozen holiday selections were performed by a 30-piece chamber orchestra with more than 250 local high school singers.

"This is going to be our main fund raising event every year, we're excited about it," said Robert St. John, founder of Extra Table.

"We require outside fund raisers for administrative costs, papers, pens, things like that," said Raven Tynes, executive director of Extra Table. "Tonight's concert will help us cover those funds, so that 100 percent of donations can benefit the hungry and those who need it," she said.

Extra Table was founded in 2009.
