Walmart hosts "Fill the Truck" toy drive to support The Salvation Army

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

For one day only The Salvation Army partnered up with Walmart on Highway 98 to help children in need this Christmas.

By hosting the first annual Fill the Truck toy drive, many Walmart shoppers donated new toys and coats for children in the community on Saturday.

As shoppers entered Walmart they received a list of suggested gifts to help fill The Salvation Army's truck, and although the truck wasn't nearly filled, many Walmart shoppers supported the cause by donating money.

“We have a long way to go before we fill this truck, but we do appreciate those who have been able to come and give us a toy,” said Salvation Army Captain Frances Gilliam. “These will go towards our angel tree and some children just do not get adopted, and so we will fill their gifts with gifts that have been given here.”

Toys can still be donated to children by adopting a child from the angel tree at Turtle Creek Mall.
