HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of underprivileged children and their families in the Hattiesburg area were treated to an early holiday event just for them Saturday. They attended the annual, "Birthday Party for Jesus," hosted by the staff and volunteers at Christian Services, Inc.

The youngsters first attended a program where they learned about the meaning of Christmas. They then each received a sack lunch, a balloon and a toy of their very own.

"Most of all, they'll go home knowing that Jesus loves them and that they've had a day that they can remember possibly for the rest of their lives," said Cookie Prout, co-founder of Christian Services, Inc.

"We just appreciate what Christian Services does for the children every year," said Deborah Williams, who brought her grandchildren to the event.

This was the 26th year for the "Birthday Party for Jesus."
