HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Forrest County Supervisors opened four bid proposals for the demolition of the old jail on Forest Street in downtown Hattiesburg.

The supervisors are looking at different options as to what to do with the facility now that the new jail is up and running.

They recently advertised for bid proposals for either the sale or demolition of the building. The third option would be for the county to retain the building, renovate it, and use the first two floors for county office space.

The lowest proposal for demolition was for $125,000 with the highest coming in at more than $750,000.

No bids have been received to buy the building, however Board President David Hogan says he has spoken with someone who has an interest in buying it and they will be meeting with the board attorney next week to discuss it

The supervisors took the bids under advisement until they can be reviewed to see if they meet the requirements.

Hogan says a decision on what will happen to the building will not come until after the first of the year.
