Grand County Colorado Tourism Board (GCCTB) offers holiday gatherings outside or indoors for a season of fun in the towns of Winter Park, Fraser, Granby and Grand Lake.

Just a short 60-mile drive from downtown Denver, Grand County is a great place to escape the holiday crowds. Whether it’s a blazing downhill run, a high-altitude snowmobile tour, or a contemplative snowshoe walk, there’s a winter adventure for every taste. When it’s time to come inside, choose from a varied menu of restaurants, historical sites, theater, and more. And don’t forget the special holiday festivities!
Here’s just a sampling of what’s go-ING on in Grand County this holiday season:

  •     Celebrate the season: Santa arrives in town on Dec. 22 at Cooper Creek Square in Winter Park; drop by to enjoy the festivities and whisper a wish in Old Nick’s ear. On Christmas Eve, Winter Park Resort celebrates with a decades-old tradition of carols around the bonfire before the torchlight parade and fireworks.

  •     Snowshoe hikes: About 70% of Grand County is public land, much of it accessible for snowshoeing and Nordic skiing. Rocky Mountain National Park offers ranger-led snowshoe hikes for beginners (Dec. 23 and Dec. 30) or intermediates (Dec. 29) or a cross-country ski tour (Dec. 29).    Full-moon snowshoe outings at Devil’s Thumb Ranch (Dec. 28) and Pole Creek Golf Course (Dec. 29) are followed by food and drinks around the fire afterwards.

  •     A taste of history: The Victorian-era Kauffman House is the focal point of Grand Lake’s holiday season. The museum kicks off the fun with food and music as part of the Annual Open House (Dec. 27) and two days of special displays (Dec.28 and 29). New Year’s Eve fireworks over the lake at midnight are a spectacular end to the celebration.

  •     Eat, drink and be merry: Restaurants throughout the county will be offering special menus throughout the season. The Lodge at Sunspot, reached by a scenic gondola ride to the top of Winter Park Resort, will be offering special dinners on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Grand Lake’s historic Rapids Lodge will host Belle Kauffman’s Sunday Dinner benefit on Dec. 26.

  •     Oh, the drama: For some old-fashioned side-splitting fun, grab tickets to the Grand Arts Council’s annual Holiday Melodrama in Grand Lake. The closing night performance is always timed for attendees to get outside in time for the New Year’s Eve fireworks over the lake.
