USM erases 13 point deficit; downs Mississippi State

Behind 17 points from senior Tanecka Carey and freshman Jerontay Clemons, the Southern Miss women's basketball team took down in-state rival Mississippi State 61-59 to earn their fourth straight win.

The Golden Eagles (4-2) held only two leads in the contest, a 4-3 lead with less than two minutes gone by, and then by three with just over two minutes left in regulation. In between, they battled through a nine-point halftime deficit, and a 13 Bulldog lead with 12:59 left in the second half.

Kendra Grant lead the way for Mississippi State (3-5) with 10 points, while her teammate, Martha Alwal, grabbed 10 boards.

The team spends its next two games on the road, at Arkansas-Little Rock and at Louisiana-Monroe, before returning to the Reed Green Coliseum Dec. 15 to face Loyola, MD.
