Santa’s Bargain Basement Sale raises more than $1,200 for United Way

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Aside from Laurel's rummage sale, The University of Southern Mississippi also had their 19th Annual Santa's Bargain Basement Sale.

The Association of Office Professionals in conjunction with Southern Mississippi Recreational Sports and Delta Tau Delta hosted the mega garage sale at the Payne Center Saturday morning.

Hundreds of residents stopped by and bought books for 25 cents, shirts for 50 cents, pants for $1 and even a drum set for $15.

Not only was it a bargain for many, but all proceeds were donated to United Way.

"Thank you to everybody from Mississippi for donating," said President of Delta Tau Delta Lance Alvin. "Everything that's donated is for a great reason and it goes to benefit the community."

All items at Santa's Bargain Basement Sale were donated throughout a three month period from various residents and students.

The garage sale raised more than $1,200 for United Way and also donated 34 bags filled with clothes and various items to the Salvation Army.
