HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Wednesday Hattiesburg Police say they received a call from a Broad Street resident who believed he had discovered some type of explosive device on his property.
The man had been cleaning up a debris pile at around noon when the device was discovered. Officers arrived and examined the device. They took a picture of the device and sent it to bomb experts in Biloxi.
Broad Street at Miller Street was closed down for about one block and for precautionary measures nearby residents were asked to leave the affected area.
When the bomb expert arrived he determined it was a military explosive device, but not armed and used for training only.
The road was reopened and residents were permitted to return to their homes at about 3:30 p.m.
