USM silent about Johnson, administration reviewing football program says president

The college football coaching carousel claimed another half dozen victims over the weekend, but Ellis Johnson is still the head coach at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Early Monday, Southern Miss President Aubrey Lucas said the administration is in the process of reviewing its football program and plans for the future.

Lucas said, "when we have something to report, we will report it."

Johnson met with members of the football team at 4 p.m. Monday in what was described as a "normal end-of-the-season" meeting.  Johnson also met with Athletic Director Jeff Hammond just prior to the players meeting.

The Golden Eagles finished the 2012 season 0-12, the worst in school history. In 1925, the school went winless in a six-game season.

An assistant sports information director said of the closed-door players meeting, "there is nothing to talk about."
