Petal hosts annual child beauty pageant

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

It was a Sunday filled with glitz and glam as many young ladies participated in the Tiny Miss Pageant in Petal.

Hosted by Jo Carlisle and Blake Nagy Performing Arts Center, the Christmas pageant gathered 15 contestants from the Pine Belt area as well as from Pelahatchie and Jackson.

"Pageants build self-esteem, they build character, and they're just a fun hobby for everybody," said owner of performing arts center Blake Nagy.

A fun hobby that many Tiny Miss contestants enjoy being a part of.

"I love doing pageants because it tells me how much fun I can have. I don't have to do volleyball and baseball and stuff to have fun, I can do other stuff," said pageant contestant Bailie Bishop.

Although there was only one Ultimate Supreme Queen crowned, every contestant didn't leave empty handed. With awards such as most beautiful and most photogenic everyone left home with a trophy and a crown.

Jo Carlisle and Blake Nagy Performing Arts Center tries to host a pageant for each holiday.

The performing arts center also teaches dance classes and gymnastics.
