HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Renovation is nearing completion on a century-old structure in Hattiesburg which will soon house out-of-town volunteers who will help local storm victims. Work is finished on the first floor of the "Volunteer House" on Buschman Street and renovations are being completed on the second floor.

It's owned by the R3SM (Recover, Rebuild, Restore South Mississippi) organization. That group helps families impacted by natural disasters.

Volunteers should begin arriving next month.

"We're going to start receiving our first teams starting actually the end of December and we've got teams booked through March," said Sheila Varnado, executive director of R3SM. "They're going to all be staying right up there on that second floor in those sleeping rooms and those renovated bathrooms, so we're coming along very, very nicely," she said.

R3SM bought the house in 2009.

The organization was formed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
