The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday.

"It's the day that you can pull yourself out of the red and back into the black," said Ted Martin, general manager of Turtle Creek Mall.

It's also known as the busiest single shopping day of the year and that means a win-win situation for both shoppers and retailers.

"This is our best day of the year," said Eric Graham, general manager of Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen in the Turtle Creek Mall.

It's the best day for business and in many cases, the best day for bargain hunters as well. That was certainly true Friday at many shopping malls across the Pine Belt.  Many stores were offering big discounts from 40 to 70 percent off on many different types of items.

"You save some money, which is always important during this time of the year," said Sam Reynolds of Ellisville, who was looking for Black Friday deals in Hattiesburg.

"The shopping industry is projecting a four percent increase in sales over the last year and if our sales year-to-date are any indication, we're expecting a very successful holiday season," said Ted Martin.

Martin also expects another very busy shopping day on the Saturday before Christmas.
