American Express is once again encouraging holiday shoppers across the country to "shop small" on Saturday to support local business.
Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 as a way to get holiday shoppers to patronize local businesses during the holiday season. American Express offers an incentive to their customers to shop small by offering a $25 credit for every $100 spent at qualified stores.
Some business owners in downtown Hattiesburg were gearing up for the event Friday with great anticipation.
"We anticipate a very large turn out for Small Business Saturday. Last year they had such a huge advertising push for it both locally and nationally," said Adrienne Hicks, Blooms of Hattiesburg.
Last year over 100-million-people took part by shopping at small local businesses.
