HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Thanksgiving came early today to the elderly and disabled residents of one Hattiesburg apartment complex. A holiday community dinner was held for dozens of folks at the North Hill Place Apartments.

Turkey and chicken was served, along with dressing, cornbread and other traditional side dishes. Residents also received a visit from Mayor Johnny Dupree.

"A lot of them are people who have given to our country and a lot of them have served our city and our county and our state and we want to tell them how important they are to us and then, just how important they are as just people," said Dupree.

"The Thanksgiving holiday...a lot of people are sad because a lot of people aren't able to be with their loved ones, so for us, coming together is a real big treat for them," said Monique Galloway, coordinator of resident services at North Hill Place Apartments.

This was the first year for the community dinner.
