Four Hattiesburg firefighters received promotions to new ranks and positions during a pinning ceremony Monday.
Johnny Jackson, who has been with the department since 1995, was promoted to battalion chief and is now the new city fire marshal. Matt Saucier, who has also been a Hattiesburg firefighter since 1995, was promoted to Captain. He is in charge of four-stations in the east district.
Also promoted was Chester Jack to lieutenant and Spencer Taylor was to engineer. Both of them were unable to attend the ceremony.
"We're in the business of preventing fires, the hazards that pose a threat to the citizens and the firefighters,"said Battalion Chief Jackson. "I'm grateful for the opportunity."
It's a great honor to be elected as a captain," said Saucier. "There are a lot of guys trying out for it . I feel honor to be the one chosen."
A reception was held following the ceremony with refreshments provided by Pine Belt Oil Minit Mart.
