Hattiesburg celebrates Veterans Day with parade

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hub City's three-tier Veterans Day program wrapped up Monday morning.

The grand finale kicked off Monday after a 24-hour veterans' memorial vigil began Sunday at 10 a.m. Local bands, floats, and of course, veterans marched down Hardy Street Monday as part of Hattiesburg's Veterans Day parade.

Parade Grand Marshall, Master Chief Petty Officer John Goodman presided over the event. All veterans who were able to participate were invited to march in the parade.

"This is a great day. I'm so thankful that my city remembers what all us veterans gave to make this country safe," said veteran William Howell.

Due to the possible threat of rain, the Veterans Day ceremony that preceded the parade was moved to the Jackie Dole Community Center.
