WAYNESBORO, MS (WDAM) - Wayne County held their annual Veteran's Day observance Monday morning in the high school gymnasium.
Several veterans and their families attended the ceremony.
Each of the veterans stood to be recognized as the school band played their branches hymn song. The school's choir, The Orange Blossoms, also performed a couple of patriotic songs.
Guest speaker Brigadier General Jandon Boyles from the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command in Jackson spoke to the crowd about the significant impact those who served have had on their country and why they should be honored.
"I would tell you that what I would say characterizes the veteran is the selfless service and their sacrifice to leave their families at home to go represent our country to spread democracy," said Boyles. "Then to come home and embed back in their community and be American citizens."
Following the ceremony the veterans and their families had an opportunity to visit with each other and have refreshments.
