Collins Boy Scout honors veteran’s home with Eagle Scout project

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Along with celebrating Veterans Day, the Mississippi Veterans Home in Collins were also honored with a dedication ceremony by a young Boy Scout.

Having the highest respect for people who have served in the military, Boy Scout Cody Rosser took it upon himself to raise over $4,000 to place flags for each branch of service in front of the Mississippi Veterans Home.

Cody started his eagles scout project in June 2011, and after several months of hard work, the veteran's home now displays six new flag poles.

"I did this to honor the residents here at the state veteran's home for the services and sacrifices that they made for our country," said Cody.

On Sunday not only did Cody and Congressman Steven Palazzo thank all the veterans for their sacrifices, but the veterans home itself thanked Cody for his dedication and hard work.

"The main message is that we've got to remember as a nation, freedom is not free," said Palazzo. "People pay for that freedom with blood, sweat, life, and limb.  We just need to appreciate them and thank a veteran every opportunity that we have."

On the day the flags were raised, many of the veterans sat out front and cheered when the flags went up.
