The members of the Laurel Little Theater are hoping you will help them improve and expand the historic Arabian Theater. Thursday afternoon, the organization announced a $1 million fund raising campaign called,Raise the Roof.
It would pay for the construction of several new additions to the 85-year-old building, which was once part of the old Pinehurst Hotel.
Members want to build an extension to the lobby, new bathrooms, new dressing rooms and additional backstage areas.
"The reason that we're doing this extension is because it's 35 years overdue," said Wess Hughes, a board member of the Laurel Little Theater. "We bought this theater in 1977, when it went out of business as a movie house and it was only built as a movie house. There was no stage in this theater. We only have two stalls in our rest rooms and the ladies have to line up for half an hour at intermission, just to get in there, so we've needed bathrooms now for 35 years for them and we need stage space and construction and dressing rooms for our cast back stage," Hughes said.
The campaign is officially kicking off this weekend with a production of Always...Patsy Cline.
