Hattiesburg murder suspect may have stolen car

Hattiesburg police say the woman who allegedly shot and killed a neighbor and wounded her mother on Monday may be traveling in a stolen car.

Police are looking for Tamira Peoples, 37, on murder and aggravated assault charges. The woman allegedly shot Samina Gholar, 22, as she stood in the doorway of her Briarfield apartment and wounded her mother.

Police believe Peoples escaped the scene in a gray 2001 Chevy Impala with license plate FRH 846.  Peoples' 3-year-old son is believed to be traveling with her. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Tamira Peoples, contact HPD at 545-4911 or Crimestoppers at 601-582-STOP.

Monday evening Hattiesburg police said an arrest warrant on homicide charges had been issued for Tamira Peoples.

Police say the shooting occurred at about 10 a.m. in Building E of the Briarfield Apartments on East Second Street. An unknown assailant shot two women, one of whom died at the scene. Emergency responders transported the other woman to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown.
