Richton student dies after football injury

PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Richton high school senior died Sunday as the result of injuries he received playing touch football on school grounds Friday.

Superintendent Noal Cochran says Alex Lott was playing football with other students on the baseball field and had gone out for a pass when he stumbled awkwardly and fell to the ground.

Cochran said the student sustained a spinal cord injury as a result of the fall. The student died Sunday from complications during surgery.

Alex Lott was a member of the Richton High School Baseball Team.
