One dead in shooting; arrest warrant issued

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg police are investigating the death of one resident and the injury of another following a shooting at an apartment complex near downtown Hattiesburg Monday morning.

The suspect is still at large. Monday evening Hattiesburg police said an arrest warrant on homicide charges had been issued for Tamira Peoples.

Police say the shooting occurred at about 10 a.m. in Building E of the Briarfield Apartments on East Second Street. An unknown assailant shot two women, one of whom died at the scene. Emergency responders transported the other woman to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Officials believe the victims were mother and daughter.
