HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Just Friday, Southern Pines had more than 90 kittens and cats in their shelter, but that all changed as soon as their gates opened Saturday morning.

As a way to prevent from having to euthanize many of their sheltered cats, Southern Pines decided to waive the adoption fee for cats Saturday and give them for free.

While the shelter was hoping to at least get 20 cats adopted, they ended up getting more than expected.

“All the kittens are adopted and almost all the cats are adopted,” said Southern Pines Animal Shelter employee Harrison Venette. “About 30 minutes before we opened there was a huge crowd in front of the gates. I love all these guys, but I’m really glad they found homes.”

Southern Pines Animal Shelter ended up having almost one-hundred adoptions on Saturday, a record-breaking day for them.
