MS. Dept. of Wildlife turns 80

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The weather was perfect Saturday to celebrate Mississippi's great outdoors and all it has to offer.

In observation of the 80th anniversary of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, Governor Phil Bryant has proclaimed this weekend "Conservation Weekend."

It means free outdoor fun statewide.

There were free activities Saturday only at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

They included fishing and archery demonstrations, zip lines, aquarium dives, the robotic Dinosaur Exhibit, face painting and more.

"For this entire weekend all your state parks, your state lakes and wmas (wildlife managed areas) are free. You still have to have a hunting and fishing license but those areas are fee for the public to use this weekend," said Megan Fedrick with the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

Conservation Weekend is November 3rd and 4th.
