Baby Alivia custody hearing ordered closed to the public

Posted: Updated:
LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

We might never know who will win custody of the three-year-old Covington County baby who was allegedly kidnapped last month by her parents.

You may remember the grandparents of baby Alivia Powell were in Chancery Court in October, fighting for custody. The maternal grandparents asked for custody, claiming the paternal grandmother, with whom the child currently lives, is a prescription drug user.

During the last court hearing, Chancery Court Judge Dawn Beam ordered both grandmothers to take a drug test.

We will probably never know the results of the test because on Friday Judge Beam sealed the court files and ordered the court hearings closed to protect the well-being of baby Alivia.
