The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is holding a special adoption event planned for Saturday. For that day only, cats and kittens can be adopted free of charge.
All the animals will be spayed or neutered and have their age appropriate shots. They all have been examined by a vet and are healthy and free of worms. A $10 fee will apply if you request a micro-chip for your new pet.
The free adoption event was made necessary by the severe overcrowding in the cat and kitten cottages.
Adoptions for cats and kittens are free, however donations to the shelter will be welcome.
"We are asking if you are able to make a donation, even if you are not adopting an animal, it would be greatly appreciated," said Dorothy Ricks, SPAS volunteer. "Having these animals spayed or neutered and giving them their vaccinations cost the shelter money."
The free cat and kitten adoption event at the shelter is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
