HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg campus of Pearl River Community College held its annual Fall Festival and food drive to benefit the Salvation Army and other worthy causes.

The festival featured skits and music performances by students, faculty, and staff. Several contests were held including pumpkin carving and decorating, t-shirt design, costume, and door decorating.

Non-perishable food items were collected at the event and were given to a representative from the Salvation Army of Hattiesburg. Also as part of the festival the students raised money for several causes including domestic violence awareness and Alzheimer research.

"It's an opportunity for the students early on in the semester to get to know each other better. They've seen each other around campus, but this is a time for them to visit," said Cecil Burt, Vice President, Hattiesburg Campus. "It's also a time for them to support some worthy organizations such as the Salvation Army and other charities like the ones I mentioned."

This was the 15th year for the event.
