PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Vandals struck a local high school over the weekend, leaving behind thousands of dollars in damage.

Students at Perry Central High School returned Monday morning to find trash thrown across the parking lot and toilet paper in the trees.

Inside the building, the damage was much worse. Several doors were jimmied open, with their windows broken out, and several classroom windows were broken.

While the exact timing isn't known, officials believe it could have occurred overnight Sunday. Students at Perry Central High were held in lock-down today, as to avoid the crime scene area.

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is asked to call the Perry County Crime Stoppers at (601) 964 - 7867 or the Perry County Sheriff's Department at (601) 964 - 8461.
