Four vehicle accident in Jones County injures two

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

An early morning accident near Ovett sent two people to the hospital and forced the closure of Highway 29 for several hours.

The accident happened just after 6 a.m. about a mile from the Jones/Perry County line. A log truck and dump truck hauling stones both overturned spilling their cargo, blocking both lanes of the highway. Two other vehicles were also involved.

The driver of the dump truck was transported by EMSERV to South Central Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the log truck was also injured but declined transportation to the hospital. He was later taken by private vehicle.

Highway 29 remained closed for more than six-hours while the vehicles and cargo was cleared from the road.
