OXFORD, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Around this time last year three Ole Miss students were killed in a car accident on Interstate 55.

Saturday morning, many students say it was like déjà vu to learn about the death of two more classmates

While the Rebels were victorious in Arkansas as they defeated the Razorbacks, tragedy struck back home in Oxford when two Ole-Miss students were killed in a head-on collision.

The Lafayette County coroner confirmed 30-year-old John Wheat and his sister 24-year-old Sarah Wheat were killed Saturday at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 7.

Sarah died immediately from the crash. Authorities airlifted John to The Med in Memphis. Capt. James Owens from the Oxford Police Department said John died shortly after.

A student at Ole Miss, Alec Rawlings said the campus is still healing from last year's accident that killed three freshmen.

"I heard through twitter and it was really sad and it was during the football team and it toll on me," said Rawlings.

"They were good friends of mine and this really hits home that this happened again," he said.

Dean of Students Dr. Thomas Reardon expressed his condolences.

"So many people are touched by this, family friends classmates, instructors, neighbors, and we just want the Wheat family to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers," said Reardon.

According to their Facebook pages, Sarah and John were from Crofton, Maryland.

As the University of Mississippi mourns the loss of two of their own, Rawlings said the Rebels will unite during this tragedy.

"It's sad for all of us but we can heal," said Rawlings.

The driver who hit Sarah and John's car was transported to a local hospital by an ambulance, the name has not been released.
