Two Ole Miss students dead after crash

Two Ole Miss students died after a two-vehicle crash in Oxford Saturday morning according to Lafayette County coroner. 

The crash occurred on Highway 6 near the Highway 7 ramp, striking another vehicle head-on.

Coroner Rocky Kennedy confirmed that Sarah Wheat, 24, and her brother John Wheat, 30, were the individuals in that car. 

Sarah died immediately from the crash. 

Authorities airlifted John to The Med in Memphis. Capt. James Owens from the Oxford Police Department  said he died shortly after 3:15 p.m.

Kennedy said he found Ole Miss student IDs on Sarah and John. 

Ole Miss Dean of Students Sparky Reardon confirmed both individuals were students at the university. 

The driver who hit Sarah and John's car was transported to a local hospital by an ambulance, the name has not been released. 

Owens said one of the cars crossed the median but the investigation is still pending.
