Authorities recover Buick linked to Lamar County murder
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Authorities say they have recovered the Buick, which belonged to Ada Smith, 95, who was murdered Sunday at her home near Purvis.
Wednesday afternoon, Ada Smith's 1993 white Buick Century was found in a swampy area in Slidell, Louisiana.
Tuesday, U.S. Marshals apprehended David Bass, 26 and James Robert Martin, 22 at Ra zoo's Bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Authorities say neither suspect offered any resistance at the time of the arrest; however, each suspect had a handgun.
The two became prime suspects in Smith's murder after authorities found physical evidence inside her home on Highway 589, that allegedly linked them to the murder. Law Enforcement says that Mrs. Smith cause of death was a stab wound.
Just 24 hours before the homicide, Bass and Martin walked away from the Mississippi Department of Corrections Community Work Center in Forrest County. Both were serving time for grand larceny and burglary from North Mississippi.
Funeral serves for Smith are incomplete at this time.
