Local residents dress up to trek and trot

While it may not be Halloween just yet, many Pine Belt residents trek or trotted early Saturday morning.

With their Halloween costumes on, several members of the community participated in the Halloween Hustle 5k Run at Long Leaf Trace in honor of the Magee family.

Having two children with cancer, and being helped a lot by St. Jude, the family wants to give back to the hospital and raise money for them.

"This year a friend of mine asked about doing the half marathon at St. Jude in December in honor of Christian and in memory of our daughter Reed, bot of which had cancer," said mother Laverne Magee. "Reed passed away a year-and-a-half ago of brain cancer. Christian had liver sarcoma and he is one year out from chemo this week and cancer free, so we will be going in December and doing the half marathon there."

The Magee family hopes to make the 5k run an annual event to help raise money for St. Jude.
