(RNN) - The gunman who killed three and injured four more near a shopping mall in a Milwaukee, WI, suburb shot and killed himself on the scene, and police are not seeking any more suspects.
Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, 45, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the Azana Salon and Spa near the Brookfield Square Mall, Brookfield Police Chief Dan Tushaus said in a news conference Sunday night.
One of the dead is his ex-wife, according to reports, and the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, police said.
The shooter was initially thought to have fled the scene and authorities mounted an extensive manhunt while they searched the spa. The search of the building was slowed by a suspected improvised explosive device on the scene, police said.
During the press conference, Tushaus said a small fire had started in the building and the building's sprinkler system went off. He also said they found a one-pound propane tank in the building, but are not sure if it was an IED.
Police said they are not sure if the fire was started by the suspect. Fire crews were called to the scene.
The spa is a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building across from the shopping mall, located in a middle-to-upper class community west of Milwaukee.
The shooting started about 11:09 a.m. Sunday. Police have not yet identified any of the victims, but all the wounded were women, according to Milwaukee TV station WTMJ. Among the dead is the gunman's estranged wife, they said.
Authorities say they believe the shooting was related to a domestic dispute. The dead man lived in nearby Brown Deer, WI, and his estranged wife worked at the salon.
Police worked to enter the suspect's house utilizing a bomb disposal robot, according to MSA Security.
Court records showed a temporary restraining order was issued against Haughton in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Oct. 8 because of a domestic abuse complaint. During the news conference, Tushaus said a four-year restraining order was issued on Oct. 18.
A spokeswoman for Froedtert Memorial Hospital said four shooting victims were taken there, none in critical condition. Brookfield police could not confirm their conditions during the news conference.
The hospital and the nearby mall were locked down along with many area businesses, including a nearby country club.
The hospital has reopened for normal operation. The spa is still being treated as a crime scene, Tushaus said during the press conference.
Police are not seeking any additional suspects.
Milwaukee FBI spokesman Leonard Peace said that an FBI SWAT team, hostage negotiators, command staff and victims specialists helped with the response, including the manhunt that lasted most of Sunday afternoon. The FBI and agents from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms bureau are also involved.
The White House released a statement saying President Barack Obama has been informed of the shooting and that the incident does not appear to be terrorist-related.
The shooting scene is less than a mile from the Sheraton Hotel. On March 12, 2005, seven people were killed and four wounded when Terry Michael Ratzmann opened fire at a Living Church of God service at the hotel. Ratzmann, a 44-year-old, then committed suicide.
Brookfield is also 23 miles from Oak Creek, WI, where a white supremacist opened fire in a Sikh temple in August, killing six and wounding four before killing himself.
