Foundation awards health and wellness grant to local school

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation has invested in students health and has funded a total of 188 schools in the state, including North Forrest Attendance Center.

Known as Project Fit America, a grant was awarded to North Forrest Attendance Academy by the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation as a wellness and health initiative.

On Friday, students and teachers celebrated their opening day by making use of their new indoor and outdoor fitness equipment. With the launch of the model health and wellness program, the school believes they can make a difference in the student's lives.

"The foundation anticipates that this outdoor and indoor exercise equipment and curriculum will inspire the students to take accountability for their own health and learn habits for life that have a focus on exercise and healthy eating," said Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation Executive Director Sheila Grogan. "We know that when students are healthier they perform better in the classrooms."

The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation has invested approximately $5,000,000 in the student's health and in the future of Mississippi.
