Hattiesburg police release the names of two alleged bank robbers

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Two people were taken into custody a short time after the Broadway Drive BancorpSouth was robbed Friday afternoon. Hattiesburg police say the alleged robbers are Artea Chilton, 25, from Lumberton, and Darrisha Johnson, 23 from Mt. Olive.  Both are currently living in Hattiesburg.

Authorities say around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon Chilton walked into the bank, told the teller he had a gun and demanded money. He then took off in a red Mustang with Johnson in the car headed east toward downtown Hattiesburg.

The car was spotted a short time later less than a mile from the bank and was pulled over  near the corner of Broadway and West Pine. Chilton was taken into custody at that time. Johnson jumped from the vehicle somewhere between the bank and where the car was pulled over. She was caught a short time later and was also taken into custody.

Both suspects have been charged with armed robbery.
