The 14-year-old George County boy who was allegedly beaten at George County High School Thursday is doing well.
WLOX News spoke with Austin Stokes' mother Friday morning. Lori Ann Dees said her son is now resting at home, in good condition. Dees said Austin has cerebral palsy, is legally blind and has a hard time using the left side of his body.
She said he was punched by another student at school Thursday and had to be taken to the hospital. In addition to being bloodied and bruised, he also chipped a tooth when he fell to the ground.
Officials with the George County Sheriff's Department said the high school is responsible for the investigation, since the incident happened on school grounds. Formal charges have not yet been filed.
WLOX News spoke with George County Schools Superintendent Debbie Harrell who refused to give any specifics about the case.
"We cannot discuss any student matter publicly," Harrell said. "We are very proactive with the safety of our students. We will follow our policies and procedures with each situation."
Trang Pham-Bui will have more from Austin's family later today on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
