The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss are struggling during
this, their centennial year of fielding a football program. At the time they were called The Mississippi
Normal College. A lot can happen over a
hundred football season—especially when going from playing teams like the Boy
Scouts all the way to the top teams in the nation and sending some of the most
notable players in the game to the pros.
Last year was USM's first 12-win season.
This year things have not gone so well under first year head coach Ellis
Johnson. The Golden Eagles have lost
their first six games. This Saturday is homecoming
as they take on Marshall. What a great
time to show unprecedented support for the home team by filling up the
stadium. People talk about the legendary
fan base of the most respected teams.
They comment on how their loyal fans turn out whether they win or lose. Southern Miss has had about two decades of
winning season and now they need to see their fans support them when they are
down. It's not about the coaches. It's not about university politics. It's about the team. It's about the school. It's about young men giving their best on the
field of play. We urge you to fill the
Rock to the top…just like the first game of the season. After all it is homecoming.
